Gaby Lopez
Gaby was born on November 9th, 1993 in Mexico City. Her dad introduced her to golf. Thanks to the advice and unconditional support of her parents, Gaby started playing golf when she was 5 years old at The Club de Golf México ( Mexico´s Golf Club ), most of Gaby´s relatives are highly involved with golf, and that is how she fell in love with the game.
At the age of 7, she made her first hole in one in a tournament. She affirms that her academic education always has been a priority. She attended the Sagrado Corazón for middle and high school. At the age of 6, Gaby started playing some tournaments, but it was when she was 12 that she decided to quit other sports such as gymnastics to pursue her golf dreams. Due to her dedication, effort and results, she received a sponsor´s exemption to play her first LPGA tournament when she was 15 years old. It was the 2009 Master Card Classic. Few months later, she won the monday qualifier for the LPGA Corona Championship.
In 2010, she won The Callaway Junior World Championship with a record of 14 under par. Gaby is the only mexican to have won the category 15-17 years old. It was that event that perpelled her dreams deciding that she wanted to pursue a career in profesional golf.
As an amateur, Gaby has played 8 LPGA events and 2 Features Tour events (now known as Symetra Tour) that included 2 US Women´s Open in 2012 and 2015. Her best finish has been at the 2015 NW Arkansas Walmart Championship with a total of -6 which placed her in a tie for 29th. She played in two World Amateur Championships , Spiritu Santo Cup, in Argentina 2010 and Japan 2014. Her best finish was in Japan where she finished in 6th place with a total of 12 under par. In most of this events , the presence and support of her parents had been very important to her.
Gaby graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts Comunicatios degree with a mayor in Sports Management, where she has excelled in golf and in the classroom. She affirms that playing golf and studying in the US, more specifically in Arkansas, have been the best decisions she has made.
